On Wednesday 17th June Newcastle Tennis Club hosted the annual Inter-Primary Schools’ Tennis Tournament, where Newcastle witnessed some budding future tennis stars in action!
Teams consisting of 4 children from local primary schools, St. Mary’s, (Newcastle); St. Joseph’s, (Carnacavill); St. Macartan’s, (Loughinisland); All Children’s Integrated, (Newcastle) and Sacred Heart, (Dundrum) were all challenging for the trophy, and each took part in some very competitive doubles matches.
The matches highlighted the children’s athleticism, competitive spirit, tenacity and great nature in their wins and in some cases their losses. The children played with zeal and enthusiasm and were a credit to their schools and families.
All Children’s and St. Joseph’s Primary took part in an incredibly exciting and closely contested final with St. Joseph’s B team coming out on top. Congratulations to St. Joseph’s who made a fantastic comeback to win the trophy – for a second year in a row.
On the back of the results some of the schools have pledged to redouble their efforts in time for next year’s tournament! We look forward to that.
