Over forty tennis players of all ages gathered at Newcastle Tennis Club on Wednesday (6th August) evening for a fun family tennis event.
The event brought together old and new members in mixed doubles action for adults and tennis-based games for children.
In the course of the evening the Club was visited by representatives of local supermarket Lidl, who distributed “goodie bags” of promotional vouchers and free products to all the players present.
The fun night complemented the regular Monday and Thursday evening Club Play sessions, as well as the more competitive tennis being played as part of the summer internal leagues.
With just a few matches played, leading the senior singles league are Jacqueline McClory, Gabrielle Burns and Eugene McGuigan, although this may well change as the summer season progresses.
Meanwhile in the junior singles and doubles leagues, the most frequent players include Michael Flanigan, Jack Cunningham, Molly Crawford, Gabriel Corrigan, Joseph Roseingrave, Aaron McAnulty and Sinéad Flanigan.
The leagues are open to all club members, who can set up matches via website tennisengine.com.
A mini-tournament for beginner to intermediate senior members will be held on Sunday 17th August, 10am – 2pm.
Format will be mixed doubles round robin, concluding with buffet lunch in the clubhouse. Members are asked to bring a dish. Please contact Rachel Corrigan (07591 762061) to book your places and to co-ordinate food.
There will be a Club Junior Tournament staged from August 26th to September 5th, with various age groups and singles and doubles formats.
Information and registration forms should be returned by August 15th, with draw to take place at the Club house on Thursday 21 August at 7pm.
