Looking for a new way to work out?
Cardio Tennis is a fun, sociable group fitness class set on a tennis court and open to people of all ages and abilities.
You’ll get to hit lots of tennis balls during your class and have a great cardio workout at the same time.
A great fun activity for a group of friends, sports teams or even staff team building!
What is a typical class like?
Your instructor will lead you through a 90 minute class consisting of a short warm up and cool down either side of a full body workout.
Warm up – Some dynamic stretching, skills and drills to get your body warm and mind sharp before the workout begins
Aerobic section – Here’s your chance to hit loads of shots, including forehands, backhands, serves and volleys, all mixed with a variety of fitness activities
Tennis section – Put your shots into practice with fun tennis games. You’ll never play one-on-one; your team mates will be with you all the way
Cool down – Well done, you made it! Now it’s time to recover and stretch
What else do I need to know?
What do I need to bring? – Bring along your own racket if you have one, if not don’t worry as you will be able to borrow one. Wear comfortable gym kit and trainers. You’ll be working up a sweat, so don’t forget to bring a water bottle too!
Do I need to be good at tennis? – No! Cardio Tennis is for anyone who wants to get fit and have a go at tennis. The class moves along quickly, so no one will be judging your skills, and it doesn’t matter whether the ball goes in or out.
Do I need to be fit? – No! Cardio Tennis is for anyone who wants to have fun getting fit.
Do I have to be a member of Newcastle Tennis Club? – Not at first, the Tennis Club has a guest policy and classes are on a pay and play basis for a limited number of sessions. Subsequently, the Club will invite you to become a member.
Full details below of the new Newcastle Tennis Club coaching programme, catering for every age and ability.
1. A four-week cycle of coaching sessions commenced on Wednesday 17th September. There are sessions from 8-9pm and from 9-10pm, with a maximum of six people per session. There are still a few slots left in each time slot. The cost for the four-week cycle is £20 per person (£15 if you’re just signing up for the three remaining sessions), payable in advance or on night of first session. Please contact Hazel Carder on 07786 636866.
2. A second four-week cycle of coaching sessions will then commence on Wednesday 15 October, with the same time slots available and at the same cost. We are expecting these sessions to fill up quickly, so to avoid disappointment please contact Hazel Carder on 07786 636866 to book in advance.
3. We are aware that Wednesday evening does not suit all members who are interested in coaching. Sam can be available for further coaching on Friday evenings if there is sufficient interest from members. Please contact Hazel Carder on 07786 636866.
4. Sam can also be booked for private lessons in Newcastle for one or two people if that is your preference and suits you better. You can discuss arrangements with him directly on 07794 452762.
Due to the cancellation of a scheduled league match for this coming Monday (15th September), all four courts will now be available for Club Play on this evening.
COACHING
Coach Sam Clegg will be in attendance during Club Play this Monday from 7pm. He is there to gauge interest in participation in future coaching sessions. Exact plans for this will be based on levels of interest, existing skill levels and availability – but one proposal is for keenly-priced group coaching sessions (perhaps 6 people per 1 hour-session), run on weekday evenings over four-week periods. Whatever your particular interest in terms of coaching (and whether or not you plan to play on Monday evening), come along and speak to Sam and other club members and see if he can provide coaching to meet your needs.
Junior coaching will commence from 5pm on Wednesday 17 September and from 9am Saturday 20 September. Contact coach Hazel Carder for more information on 07786 636866.
Four summer scheme tennis weeks will be available for junior players during July and August, delivered by coach Hazel Carder: weeks 21-25 July, 28 July-1 August, 11-16 August, 18-22 August (start 9am-11am). Cost £20 per person – contact Hazel from July 19th to book places: 07786 636866.
During the summer, there are special Wednesday evening coaching sessions during selected weeks, for both juniors and seniors, run by coach Sam Clegg. Dates are: 9 July, 23 July, 30 July and 20 August. Coaching sessions for juniors run 6-7.30pm and 7.30-9pm, while sessions for seniors operate 9-10pm.
Monday evening mixed doubles informal club play continues every Monday evening from 7pm for adult members.
Meanwhile, both senior and junior singles and doubles internal leagues are now up and running for Club members, with the opportunity for players to set up challenge matches, meet other club members and battle their way to the top of the leagues. Click HERE for more information.
