First Evergreen matches of season, update on junior matches

Friday evening saw the first of the Senior teams coming out to play for this year’s Evergreen Leagues. Ladies’ A team travelled to Windsor Tennis Club in Belfast, where the hosts proved the stronger side, while the Ladies B team stayed at home and hosted Downshire Tennis Club. The weather was perfect for tennis, with a superb view of the mountains all evening, the matches were closely fought all the way, but went in the visitors’ favour in the end. The Men’s team faired better in their fixture, also in Belfast, against David Lloyd, ending in a draw. It promises to be a very busy week next week as the two Senior Mixed League teams also start their campaigns. Good luck to everyone.

The Juniors continued to play extremely well this week, the U14 boys drew against visitors Hilden, the matches were exciting to watch, and each team took home a well deserved point. The U18 girls played at home this week, and welcomed their opponents from CIYMS, Belfast. The weather was very settled, the home side excelled themselves and took all six matches comfortably. The U18 boys visited neighbours Downpatrick on Sunday, and spent a lovely afternoon in sunshine. The rallies were just fantastic, the different surface allowing for a slower ball, and both teams showed their commitment by trying for every single ball, producing some really super shots along the way. Newcastle came home with the points this time, and all matches were played in a very sporting manner.
