Tennis Club Open Day this Saturday

No, not that Wimbledon fortnight has returned, but that Newcastle Tennis Club is staging its annual Open Day, a chance for non-members to try out the sport.
This Saturday 4 July 1-5pm, the Club, situated on the Bryansford Road, is throwing open its courts and clubhouse for locals and visitors to sample the game.
Club coaches Sam Clegg and Jane McIlWrath will be on hand to offer free tennis lessons for players of all ages, while other courts will be available for short doubles games to give non-members or prospective members a chance to try out the game.
The Club will also be offering new members a discounted membership rate should they want to join the club for year-round access to the four, high-quality tennis courts nestling in the beautiful surroundings of Castle Park.
“Tennis is the perfect game for all ages and standards of player and is a great sport for both social and competitive play,” says Patrick Corrigan, one of the Club’s committee members.
“Newcastle Tennis Club is committed to providing access to top-notch tennis courts to people in the Newcastle area. Our Open Day is a great opportunity for children and adults alike to try out the sport, find out what the club has to offer and discover just how easy it is to pick up a racquet and have fun on court.
“For those who want to return to a sport of their youth or take it up for the first time, this Saturday afternoon is the perfect time to get some free instruction from professional tennis coaches and chat to existing members about all that the club offers. We have players aged from four to eighty-four, those who play competitively in local leagues and those who just like to play with family or friends.
“We are lucky that Newcastle Tennis Club has perhaps the most beautiful setting of any in Ireland, with views of the Mournes, yet still easily accessible by foot or car to anyone in the local area. The Club is also committed to ensuring that our courts are accessible to anyone who wants to play the sport. We try to keep our membership fees low and we will have a special discounted membership offers for juniors, seniors and families available to new members at the Open Day, so there’s no excuse for not getting involved. Last year’s Open Day was great fun and we look forward to welcoming more new players this year.”
